I understand this only too well. When my mother and grandmother were dying day by day, I could not discuss and had nowhere to share the situation. I was not “negative,” I was quiet. Trying not to cry meant my voice was lowered; it did not mean that I was incompetent or aloof. It meant that I was grieving in the midst of a loved ones’ passing and was helpless to do anything or be there. If we don’t allow people to communicate, we cannot assume that our version of the truth is necessarily the right one.

Be open to others pain with empathy, compassion, and kindness. Whether you are cruel or supremely kind, neither one will ever be forgotten.
