As the world is awash in feelings of hope and optimism, and new year’s resolutions and intentions are fresh in the minds of many, I am launching the “The Commitment to Kindness in 2015” series. The purpose of this latest series is to intentionally do at least one kind act each day either for someone else or for yourself, with the hope being that this commitment to kindness will begin today and last the rest of the year. For the next thirty-one days, I will be sharing how I honored my own commitment to kindness, and I hope that you will feel free to share the ways you were kind to yourself and others along the way, as well.
The first day of the new month and the new year began on a truly kind note, as I met my beautiful friend, Dina, for coffee/tea early this morning. This simple act of sharing warm beverages and having a meaningful chat on a cold morning was one way that I extended kindness to Dina, as she continues to mourn the recent loss of her twenty year old son, and it also was an act of self-care that I allowed myself to embrace, as time with Dina always is time well spent. To be able to be physically present with Dina to share our thoughts and feelings, and even shed a few tears, was one of the few tangible things I have been able to do to support her during this time of grief. One of the many things that Dina has taught me is that just being there for someone who is hurting is one of the best things anyone can do, and, so, I gladly did that for her.
In return, taking this time to be with Dina also enabled me to take some much-needed time for myself. As a hectic holiday season winds down, it felt so good to put down my “To Do List” and pick up a cup of tea and spend time in the company of such a dear soul. I soaked up the conversation, as it touched my heart and was food for thought, and our tears and laughter were the perfect accessories. It was a reminder that I need to take more time to relax and to do more things that make me happy, and so, I shall. Happy 2015!
You,my friend, are one of many reasons why I can see 2015 as tolerable. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for extending not just your friendship but also your expertise to me this morning. Both were greatly needed. 🙂 love you lady!
I love you right back, and I so enjoyed this morning and cannot wait to do it again. I am with you and love you always, and we will take 2015 one day at a time and be kind along the way. XOXO
Imagine if half of the world’s population, was made up of people exactly like you..maybe Monday mornings wouldn’t be so bad after all ( it can be tolerable) 🙂
Oh my goodness, what a wonderful compliment, and I thank you for it! You all truly inspire me, and I so appreciate your support. Here’s to an awesome 2015!
I still believe that our friends are the most important people in our lives for being there when we need understanding, a hug or simply an ear. Dina sure is happy for having you and so are you for being able to be there for her. That’s what’s friendship about.
I agree, as my friends mean the absolute world to me, and to be present for and with Dina has been humbling and truly beautiful. May we all have such wonderful friends in our corner!
That is such a wonderful idea! I was looking for a few more resolutions to fill my list of 12 and this would be such a great thing to do! Truly lovely!
Thank you so much, as that just made my day! If we all strive to be kind, I know that 2015 will be the start of something truly amazing throughout the world.

I never thought I’d be the recipient of many acts of kindness, but my limp, cane and hunched body evoke more than I deserve!

I guess all my boy scout deeds of my youth came back to me. I just never thought of being this old or broken myself!
