This is a love story from the assisted living.

I sat with this particular lady today and she made time to tell me the following story. A story of how she met her “friend” at the assisted living. They have been together for a couple of years.

I have seen them many times, having coffee together and sitting together in the lounge.

She got tears in her eyes as she was telling me this story this evening and I had a few tears myself. This couple has been together ever since the day that I am going to tell you about. It is about the cutest love story I have ever heard. I thought it was worth sharing with all of you.

(For privacy we will call them Dottie and Brock)

Here is Dottie’s  story…

I was eating in the dining room one night. This man had just moved into the assisted living here, and I had not met him yet.  I was sitting quietly at the table with my lady friends and waiting for the server to take our order.

Well, he came wheeling into the dining room all crazy. He went really fast, and was wheeling that chair in and out of all  the tables. He was going all around the dining room,  checking everything out . He went to each table and looked at the people. He said nothing, but just kept wheeling around.

I really thought this must be a crazy man, the way he is wheeling about so fast.My table mates also thought he was very odd.  I wondered what would happen next.

As he turned to come back towards our table, we were all looking to see what in the world he was going to do. No one had ever seen an old man wheeling his chair around so fast like that. He was like a little kid, all excited to see everything that was new.

He had checked out all the people and there he was, coming towards my table. We did not know what to think. We were just waiting to see what he was going to do.

 He came wheeling right  up and he parked his wheelchair right next to me! I was so surprised and I did not know what to say. He did not look at me directly, but he just pulled that wheelchair right in, and tucked into the spot next to me.

He looked up and motioned to the waiter….”Waiter ! A cup of coffee for the lady! ” 

He meant me ! I was so stunned, I did not know what to say. He ordered me the coffee and waited for the server to bring it. He did not speak a word to me.

When the coffee came,, he put cream in it for me and stirred it in, The he opened the sugar and stirred that in also. He handed me my coffee all ready to drink. 

That was it! I was completely gone ! I fell for him in that minute.  We have been together ever since.

I found out that his name was Brock and I thought that was a wonderful name. He is so funny and intelligent. The more I got to know him, the better he got.

I will always remember the day I met him and how we all thought he was this crazy old guy. All the time he was wheeling around the dining room, I guess he was working up the nerve to come over to me.

I will never forget how he said “Waiter ! A cup of coffee for the lady!”

He had me hooked  right there! I fell right in love with him.

  1. What a beautiful wonderful love story! Thank you for sharing it, good thing though the lady didn’t like her coffee black……………….but if she did and she was a lady she would have gratefully taken the coffeee and enjoy it.

      1. That should say drunk it…..or drinken it?…I am sure that “drink” was my typo but now I am wondering if “drinken” is a word. If I were speaking I would say ” would have drinken it”….is there an English teacher in the house? LOL

    You are going to love this story. The lady was like a schoolgirl and blushed sweetly as she relayed this story to me.

    It is one of my favorite stories from the nursing home / assisted living world. And I have been collecting stories like these for years!

    1. Thank you for popping over to kindness blog to read this. I hope your mother in law makes good friends and cocompanions.
      The women always outnumber the men at these places, so the men have more fish in their sea, so to speak.
