Whilst I was stood raging with drunken anger again, shouting at my partner and children, our 7-year old son Kyle came up to me and tightly hugged my legs.
He looked up at me, right in the eye, and said “Love you dad” whilst tears ran down his little face.
That moment of genuine, pure love stopped me shouting immediately. I remember it literally stopped my anger in its tracks. In place of rage I felt nothing but my own sadness and self-loathing.
I began to cry too and hugged my son back hard.
Since then I have come to believe that love is everything, absolutely everything.
I haven’t had a drink now for over 11 months.

I so feel that moment you describe. I am crying too. This is a turning point in life… and a little kid was the teacher.

What a sweet boy. I am so happy for Antony. Some people had experienced that kind of moment and continued drinking. Both are courageous.

Great decision. I have not had a drink in almost eight years, but still want one. Remember these words – I am not going to drink today. Best wishes on your endeavor.

Brought out the best in his father. ❤ Unfortunately, not all dads would respond this way. He had the humanity, and saw the light.
