“My name is Louise and I am a single parent.
I was struggling home this evening with many heavy shopping bags and was really struggling in the heat.
I stopped for a rest, the bags were just so heavy they had cut into my arms, when a truly wonderful lovely older couple pulled up, the gentleman jumped out grabbed my bags and said ‘come on let’s get you home’, with no thought or care to how far I had to go.
They took me all the way home…I was so grateful.
I gave them a kiss and a huge thank you, but I just wish I could do more.
It totally puts my faith back in humanity, the pure kindness they showed me.
So…to a true lady and gentleman…thank you so so much
Louise”

Being a parent is hard job, but being a single mother is very difficult. Single mothers are the fastest growing population of homeless people in the country. In the agency I volunteer with single mothers make up over 95% of the homeless families we help climb a ladder back to self sufficiency. They have jobs, but live beneath paycheck to paycheck and it only takes a one challenge to push them out of their home – reduced hours, loss of one of their jobs, healthcare expense, loss of car, or something extreme like domestic violence where they need to get away from an abuser. I am sure any kindness or support is appreciated to keep them housed.
