For example.

I don’t think love is about any kind of “soul mate” thingy

Or about any kind of “divine nature” thingy

Or about whatever is in the stars thingy

Or about anything that has soft music and soft lights

Or anything that’s between anyone’s legs.

I think love is about

getting all of your own sh*it out of the way so that

you don’t bring someone

into your life

for the purpose of having them correct all the

mistakes that your parents made.

I think that love is about

telling the absolute truth about yourself, like,

“I’m afraid to be close to you so that’s why I blame things on you.”

or,

“I am committed to being a victim and if you want to live with me you’re going to have to be willing to be the persecutor.

Or like,

“I need your help.”

Or that love is about

not yelling at somebody.

or not sweating on somebody.

or not leaving the sink dirty

or not showing up on time

It’s about calling when you leave

“Hi honey, I’m on my way?”

Or about noticing that there’s no half-and-half for your coffee

Or always getting the car filled up with gas

Or about always raising your glass to a toast

Or about leaving the office behind when you walk in the door

Love doesn’t have background music

and it doesn’t have scenes with final lines

or fade outs.

Love is

above all things

one thing.

Kindness.
