“There are a lot of homeless people in my town. Young homeless people. The joke in town is about people with corduroys and a dog on a string.
When I first moved here I hated seeing all of these pets, cats and rats included, being dragged around town all day, every day. After a while I noticed that the people with pets weren’t as aggressive at panhandling. Then I noticed that all around, they seemed to be better adjusted, and more friendly.
For a lot of these people, their animals are their only source of heat, companionship, responsibility, and pride. We dont judge people that have 9-5 jobs that leave their pets at home alone all day, but we judge a person that spends 24 hours on a walk with them. I dont anymore.”
