HOUSTON — An act of kindness Friday could have gone unnoticed had it not been for a viral post on the KHOU 11 News Facebook page.

Marge Murr, her daughter Michelle, and granddaughter Renee had just bought kolaches from their favorite bakery. But they soon discovered there was a homeless man up the road who needed them more. At the corner of the North Freeway and Airline Drive, they gave him their food. Upon seeing he was barefoot, Murr also went a step further and gave him her shoes.

A passerby was so moved, he posted an image on the KHOU Facebook page. Relatives from across the state started calling after tens of thousands of people “liked” it.

“My immediate reaction was, ‘Oh my gosh, you’re on the news channel’s Facebook page,'” Renee Foradory said. “I couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t believe it because it was like so fast.”

On Friday afternoon, 11 News tracked down that homeless man, named Johnny. Friends said he does not have toes, which gives him trouble with shoes. Johnny said he wears a 12 1/2 shoe and that he remembered the stranger’s act of kindness.

Murr admits she never thought much of it her until the post.

“It’s nice to get kudos and you know to feel good,” she said. “And I felt good already without that.”

She said she now just hopes the picture makes people think and do more acts of kindness.
