Hi my name is Ashley Benton, I created The Green Team.
The Green Team feeds, clothes and cares for the homeless. Without organizations like mine, people would starve. So many places are closing their doors for the homeless and stopping humanitarians as myself feed them. They have no where to go! They sleep in tents, under overpasses, and many die without anyone to care for them!

My father passed away, May of 2011 of a massive heart attack. Fifteen months earlier in 2009 he received an organ donation from the NFL player Chris Henry. That story was televised on CBS Sports and can still be seen today on YouTube under The Legacy of Chris Henry! My Father been through so many health issues. I knew the day he died my life would change dramatically, because when my dad was very ill, he lived thru me, he was proud and thrilled with my goals. My dad knew I had a gift to care and love unconditionally. I take my gift and commitments seriously. To further my involvement and ability to aid the homeless I went back to college to study Social Work. My children are proud and supportive of my education.
I’m grateful my children understand the true gift of giving when they accompany me and the Green Team.
I have a busy life that inspires me and my family. The homeless depend on our consistent arrival at Center City Park in Greensboro, NC on Sundays & one Friday a month. We are fortunate to have food three Sunday’s a month & one on a Friday. I’m hoping with you’re help and others we can feed more people more often. An assumption: My ultimate dream is to have a housing program for these overlooked people. I have researched one building that would be awesome for our Ministry.
I’ve posted many videos and hundreds of photos on social media. To view search under Green Team Ministry on YouTube, Ashley Danielle Benton on Facebook, and @AshBenton on Twitter.
The men are happy to know someone cares for them, at times it’s more meaningful then the food. Hugs are always well received. I’ve heard we need 10 hugs a day. How many do the homeless get?
Some people ignore them some are angered by them. That’s not fair. These are important people who lost their way. Help them, don’t ignore them. Give them an acknowledgement, a smile goes a long way. They need food for their bodies and human contact for their souls.
Some times I will just go to Pizza Hut to buy to large pizza and leave it under the bridge for a family! Other times I’ve bought Oprah Chai Tea just so the men could enjoy some of what we enjoy!
Thank you so much for reading my story and I truly hope this touches someone’s heart enough to donate to us or help someone in their communities! 🙂
