  1. This is an impressive, thoughtful, well thought out and written post. Sadly there are too few people like you on the earth. Keep on keeping on. You are very much needed.

    1. Thank you so much. I hope the number of people who want to be there will grow. It’s true there is a numbers problem. But hey, the solution to most larger problems starts with a few well-meaning individuals.

  2. Yes, you are much needed. Fuck not caring.
I must admit – if a stranger comes up to me, skips the ‘small talk’ and lays their story on me, I feel as though they are plugging into me, trying to get me on their side, make me feel sorry for them. I feel uncomfortable and irritated, like I’m being used. I feel as though they are using their story to make a connection with me, a type of emotional blackmail. I guess I feel like some level of intimacy is required before I feel comfortable in sharing my pain, or indeed, sharing another’s. It doesn’t need to be a long friendship, but some intimacy needs to be there for me.
Now though, I am wondering if that is an unreasonable response.

    1. I don’t think that’s unreasonable at all. Care is best given on your own terms, and with particular attention to your own safety and well-being. It may be good for everyone to challenge their own comfort zone, but it is also unwise to open ourselves to abuse. I train in martial arts and am well-versed in peaceful conflict resolution, so I’m not afraid of putting myself in what could be slightly more dangerous situations, but I don’t recommend it to everybody. Be there when you can in the capacity you choose, and you will improve your own life and the world.

    1. I think that’s fair. I’ve been conned before. There are a lot of people who will take advantage of a kind person. I feel quite confident in my ability to sort the wheat from the chaff. This has come at a price.

  3. Super comments. I agree with you 100%. I have a hard time with small talk, and I too am interested in people, their lives, their problems if they need someone to talk to. I wish I could put things into words as well as you, I may have written something similar. I will be following you. I will reblog this also.
Keep up the good stuff. God’s Blessings.
