“Box of Love” from my dad to my daughter. He carved each heart from a different type of wood.”
Just called my dad to double check – The one in my hand is indeed padauk. Under that is spalted birch, pine, and then zebra wood. Inside the box is maple, osage orange, walnut, and there is a cherry heart underneath. The box is made from birdseye maple and walnut.
He cut each one out using a scroll saw. Then used a carving knife and belt sander. He created the facets with the belt sander and sand paper. He said each heart took about half an hour.”
Absolutely beautiful present! My brother made me a surprise present from Huron pine and Tasmanian myrtle one year, it is a prized possession.
