A Big Man’s Kindness
By Russ Towne
I’ve sometimes been disappointed to learn there is often a huge difference between the heroic character being portrayed in a show or movie and the actor portraying him. One actor who lived up to his heroic image is Clint Walker, the strapping 6’ 6” star of the old television show “Cheyenne”.
I heard some time ago that when he was a struggling young actor trying to become known in show biz he was given the amazing opportunity to meet one of the most powerful men in Hollywood. On the way to the meeting, Clint Walker saw a middle-aged woman on the side of the road with a flat tire. It was clear she needed help, but if he stopped he’d be so late for his meeting that it would most likely kill his chances to make it in Hollywood. He stopped anyway.
After replacing the flat with the woman’s spare tire, he arrived quite late for the meeting. To his surprise, the mogul not only still met with him, he greeted the tardy unknown actor warmly. Clint Walker apologized for being so late, and began to explain the reason why. The mogul cut him off, saying he already knew the reason, for his secretary was the woman Clint Walker had rescued on the side of road.
He got the part.
Thank you, Clint Walker for showing to me through such acts of kindness that you are one of the good guys on and off the screen.
Great story.

Thanks, KB Team, for giving Russ a forum. His blog is full of kindness and goodwill to all. This story shows that sometimes a good deed is rewarded beyond the warmth it gives the doer.
