Make-A-Wish, Detroit Fire Department make 3-year-old heart transplant survivor firefighter for a day.
Tyren Johnson, 3, arrived by firetruck to Ladder 54 to a crowd of cheering family, friends and supporters Tuesday morning, April 29. Tyren, sporting a full firefighter suit and hat, shyly greeted the crowd and followed his mom, Tiesha Johnson, 23, of Detroit, around.
Detroit Fire Department mascot Patches the Dalmatian showed Tyren around the firehouse, introducing him to the chief and to a real Dalmation named Vegas, and eventually letting Tyren try and spray him with a fire hose.
Sgt. Reginald D. Harper, who helped Tyren spray the hose, said he’s been looking forward to the day since he heard about it weeks ago.
“I’m feeling wonderful inside. It just made my day,” he said.
