Tona Herndon is a 78-year-old from Bethany, Okla. She was recently visiting her husband’s grave — he died just two weeks earlier — when she was allegedly robbed of her purse and $700. Enter 15-year-old Christian Lunsford, who saw the robber’s mug shot on television and realized it was his father, Shane Lunsford.
Christian’s parents divorced when he was young, and he hasn’t seen much of his dad since. But he says he saw him a few weeks ago, when he popped in with $250 to send Christian on a band trip for school. Christian’s next move might surprise you: He reached out to Tona and asked for a meeting, so he could apologize for his dad’s crime and gave her the $250. Tona gave it right back, because she wanted Christian to take his band trip. (Pause for feelings.)
“You’re not who your parents are,” Christian told CBS News. “Even if they do raise you, you can become whatever you want to be.

Amazing. Great to know that young people don’t always blindly follow in the footsteps of those they observe from a young age. Way to think for yourself!

The acorn DID fall far from the tree (and grew to be a more upright tree). Thanks for sharing this.
